The People’s Movement in Tunisia issued a statement regarding photos and stances that gathered Tunisian Prime Minister Najla Bouden and the Israeli occupation president on the sidelines of the Climate Change Conference in Egypt.
In its statement, the People’s Movement expressed its rejection of the Prime Minister’s behavior, noting the Tunisians’ “categorical rejection of all forms of normalization with this usurping entity.”
The statement called on the Prime Minister to issue an official clarification regarding what happened, especially since she took part in this conference on behalf of Tunisian President Kais Saied.
The People’s Movement added that it “will continue to maintain its original position calling for the criminalization of normalization in all its forms.”
In the same context, the Tunisian campaign to boycott and oppose normalization with the Zionist entity denounced the action.
“The struggle against the settler colonial system and Israeli apartheid in Palestine is organically and intersectionally linked to the struggle for political and civil rights, as well as for social, economic and climate justice in the Arab world and around the world, and against all regimes of oppression and persecution,” it said in a post on Facebook.
A video clip in which the Tunisian Prime Minister appeared as exchanging a conversation with the Israeli occupation president while taking memorial photos of the Climate Change Conference that was held in Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt, sparked a wave of anger and objection in Tunisia.
It is worth noting that the Arab League summit kicked off on Tuesday in Algeria, with the participation of 16 Arab presidents, including the leaders of Tunisia, Qatar, Sudan, and Egypt.
The summit opened with Tunisian President Kais Saied who hoped that the summit in Algeria would find solutions and bridge rifts.
During his speech at the 31st regular session of the Arab League’s Council at the summit level, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune shared Saied’s stance on Palestine, stressing, “Our central and core cause is Palestinian, which is subject to elimination attempts through the Israeli occupation’s practices.”
“We will demand the General Assembly of the United Nations to recognize Palestine as an independent state,” he added.
