Former Hezbollah minister Mohammad Fneish said on Saturday that Lebanon endures a number of pressures including the economic blockade and the US-Israeli prevention of reconstruction.
In a memorial service of martyr Mohammad Mahdi Abbas Rmaiti, the ex-minister also referred to the current row on expat vote as one of the pressures being exerted on Lebanon.
Fneish stated that attempts to make amendments on the electoral vote regarding the expat vote is aimed at disrupting the domestic balance of power, noting that such attempts are led by anti-resistance parties.
In this regard he emphasized that the demanded amendments – allowing expatriates to vote for all 128 MPs rather than 6 from abroad – contradict the principle of equal opportunities and fair competition.

The National Shia Duo of Hezbollah and Amal Movement consider such amendments on the expat vote law as leading to unfair representation at the Lebanese Parliament.
They argue that the US and Europe increasingly intolerant of any discourse deemed hostile to the Zionist entity and pro-resistance, effectively restricting expatriate supporters of the National Duo from voting freely in many western countries.
In this context, Fneish stressed that Hezbollah opposes any delay in the 2026 parliamentary elections or making amendments on the electoral law.
Israeli Attacks
Meanwhile, the former Hezbollah minister wondered about the Lebanese State’s diplomatic role in defending the country against the ongoing Israeli attacks and its occupation of a number of posts in the Lebanese territories.
“As a result of regional changes and the disavowal of the sponsor state, the US, of its obligations under the ceasefire agreement, the Israeli enemy goes ahead with ceasefire violations, while Hezbollah is committed to the deal.”
Fneish lashed out at those who incite against the resistance and justify the Israeli aggression.
“Some in Lebanon do not even once think of condemning the Israeli attacks. All their concern is to disarm the resistance. Such positions give the enemy an excuse and justify its crimes.”
