The Iraqi government has announced a correction to a recently published list of individuals and entities subject to terrorist asset freezes, citing an error in the Official Gazette.
The correction follows the publication of Committee Decision No. (61) of 2025 in Issue No. 4848 of the Gazette on November 17, which detailed sanctions under United Nations Security Council Resolution 1373 (2001). The list was issued in response to a formal request from the State of Malaysia, specifically targeting figures associated with ISIS and Al-Qaeda.
Authorities clarified that the published version erroneously included names of parties and entities with no established links to terrorist activity or the named organizations. They attributed the mistake to the list being released “before the final revision.”
According to the official statement, approval was granted solely for the sanctioning of individuals and entities exclusively linked to ISIS and Al-Qaeda. A corrective notice will be issued to remove the unrelated names from the list.
This clarification came after initial Gazette reports indicated the list included Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Yemen’s Ansar Allah (the Houthis)—groups not part of the formal Malaysian request concerning ISIS and Al-Qaeda.
Iraq reaffirmed its commitment to international cooperation in combating terrorism and emphasized its adherence to due process in the enforcement of financial sanctions.
