Despite a ceasefire agreement that took effect on October 10th, the Israeli occupation military conducted a series of targeted raids across the Gaza Strip early Thursday. This localized escalation, according to local sources, appears to be an attempt to alter realities on the ground ahead of a potential next phase of the truce.
Israeli warplanes carried out multiple airstrikes on the eastern outskirts of Khan Younis, accompanied by artillery shelling in the city’s eastern districts. Further south, strikes hit the outskirts of Rafah, while military vehicles opened fire in northern Rafah. In Gaza City, forces detonated a booby-trapped robot in the Shuja’iyya neighborhood before withdrawing. Concurrently, Israeli gunboats fired on makeshift camps for displaced persons west of the city.

Local reports indicate that Israeli occupation forces are continuing demolition and bulldozing operations in areas where civilians have recently returned, raising alarms about permanent alterations to the residential landscape in eastern Gaza and around Shuja’iyya.
The human cost of the overnight strikes became clear as the Kuwait Specialized Hospital in Khan Younis announced the deaths of five civilians, including two children. The victims were killed in a drone strike targeting tents in the Al-Mawasi area. Gaza Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Basal stated the attack involved four direct missile strikes, warning that the humanitarian situation in displacement camps is “approaching catastrophe” due to persistent shelling and a dire lack of essentials.
Hamas swiftly condemned the attack on the camp, labeling it a “war crime and a blatant violation” of the ceasefire. In a statement, the group asserted that the strike represents “a transparent attempt to evade the obligations of the agreement and pressure the mediators.” It held Israel fully responsible for any further deterioration in the coming days.
In a related development, ‘Israel’ confirmed that remains received via the Red Cross were those of Thai worker Sudthisak Rinthalak. It is still awaiting the handover of the body of Israeli hostage Ran Gafni.
The Qassam Brigades and the Al-Quds Brigades had turned over Rinthalak’s body after locating it in northern Gaza. This exchange touches on a sensitive point of the ceasefire logistics, as ‘Israel’ ties progress to the next phase of the agreement to receiving all prisoners’ remains, offering in exchange the release of 15 Palestinian bodies for each Israeli one received.
