A Gaza forensic official has stated that the bodies of Palestinian martyrs returned from Israeli prisons show clear signs of torture and execution, with most found bound and blindfolded.
The spokesperson for Gaza’s forensic department revealed these findings after Israeli authorities handed over 30 bodies as part of the ongoing ceasefire exchange deal. He described the condition of the bodies as “compelling evidence” that the detainees were brutally tortured before being killed.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health has received the bodies of 30 martyrs that had been held by the Israeli occupation since the beginning of the war on Gaza.

The official urgently called on international organizations to enter the Gaza Strip to document these alleged violations by Israeli occupation forces and to ensure accountability for crimes committed against Palestinians.
A Pattern of Mutilation
This handover, reported by the Palestinian news agency Safa, is the fifth of its kind, bringing the total number of bodies returned to 225. The bodies were received at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, where many were said to bear traces of torture, including burns, and having their hands bound and eyes covered.
These reports align with a recent story from The Guardian, which found that Israel had handed over at least 135 mutilated bodies of Palestinians who were held at the Sde Teiman military base. The facility is alleged to be a site of summary executions, torture, and sexual abuse, with photos from the base showing detainees blindfolded and handcuffed.
Ceasefire Context and Challenges
The current ceasefire agreement, which took effect on October 10, was signed by US, Egyptian, Qatari, and Turkish leaders. The deal has so far seen Hamas release all 20 surviving captives, while ‘Israel’ has freed 1,718 Palestinian detainees from Gaza and 250 others serving long sentences.
However, recovery efforts have been hampered by Israeli actions. The al-Qassam Brigades previously delayed the handover of bodies in response to Israeli violations of the ceasefire, citing heavy aerial bombardments. They emphasized that ongoing military escalations are severely hindering search and excavation work.
“Any Israeli escalation will delay the recovery of more bodies,” a statement warned, noting that the occupation’s actions are directly obstructing the process of locating and identifying the remains of the deceased.
