Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun and Army Commander General Rudolph Haykal visited the Benoit Barakat Barracks in Tyre, southern Lebanon, marking the 82nd anniversary of Lebanon’s independence.
An official ceremony was held in their honor at the barracks, where music was played was played. President Aoun, General Haykal were received by Brigadier General Nicolas Tabet, commander of the South Litani Sector.
Following the reception, a meeting was held to discuss the security situation, Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon, and the army’s missions in the region.

The president and the army commander had arrived in Tyre by helicopter, escorted by two army helicopters, and landed at the helipad near the Tyre Tourist Rest Area.

Addressing the ceremony, President Aoun hailed the Lebanese Army’s steadfastness, stressing that the national army “remains committed to defend national dignity, sovereignty, and independence.”
“Lebanese army offers martyrs and pays no heed to campaigns of defamation, doubt, and incitement.”
The president hoped that the “next year’s Independence Day will come with the entire South liberated and the Lebanese flag alone raised on its borders, the symbol of sovereignty and national dignity.”

For his part, General Haykal addressed President Aoun as saying: “We reaffirm before Your Excellency our commitment to preserving Lebanon, its sovereignty and independence, and protecting its civil peace.”
Lebanon’s Independence Day is celebrated annually on November 22nd to commemorate the nation’s full independence from the French Mandate in 1943. This day marks the end of French control and is a national holiday, marked by military parades, official ceremonies, and celebrations across the country.
