Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, has praised Pope Francis’ visit to Lebanon, stating that it was “positive in all aspects”. Berri emphasized that Lebanon holds a significant place in the Pope’s priorities, saying “the Vatican will not abandon Lebanon”.
Addressing the Pope, Speaker Berri noted that the first miracle performed by Jesus Christ took place in Tyre, southern Lebanon, highlighting the region’s significance. He criticized Israel’s actions in the south, saying “this is the south that Israel is aggressing against”.
Speaker Berri commended the Pope’s productive 48-hour visit, stating that it would have required 40 days to accomplish what he achieved.
Pope Leo XIV ended Tuesday a three-day visit to Lebanon on Tuesday, bringing his 6-day apostolic visit to Lebanon and Turkey to a close.
