A top advisor to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran will meet Russian energy minister Alexander Novak during a visit to Moscow, the Iranian Students’ News Agency reported Wednesday.
Ali Akbar Velayati, Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei’s aide, is also scheduled to meet President Vladimir Putin during the visit, which will be part of efforts to make Tehran’s stance clear after the US withdrawal from the nuclear deal, Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Tuesday, according to state television.
Velayati “is going to visit Moscow and Beijing to deliver messages from Imam Khamenei and President Hassan Rouhani to Russian and Chinese leaders,” Qassemi said.
“The visit is very important because Russia, as a member of the UN Security Council, made great efforts along with other countries in the course of Tehran’s nuclear talks with the world,” Qassemi added.
