Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri described on Tuesday the Israeli attack which assassinated top Hezbollah commander Haitham Al-Tabtabai in Beirut’s Dahiyeh on Sunday as dangerous development, slamming the Cessation of Hostilities Implementation Mechanism Committee over inaction regarding the Israeli violations.
In remarks to Al-Jomhouriya Lebanese daily, he said that the most dangerous aspect of the attack on Haret Hreik is that it brought the southern suburbs and Beirut back into the circle of Israeli targeting.
“This is a very dangerous development, showing that there are no real guarantees to protect the capital and its suburbs, in light of the enemy’s disregard for any controls and its continued violation of Lebanon.”
Speaker Berri pointed that the nature of the new attack “indicates the possibility of an increase in the pace and expansion of Israeli escalation in the next stage, without any serious intervention to restrain it from the Mechanism committee.”
“The Mechanism is preoccupied with monitoring the Lebanese army and turns a blind eye to the occupation army’s violations of the cessation of hostilities agreement,” the Lebanese speaker added.

Meanwhile, Berri warned that the Israeli enemy is taking advantage of the fragile internal situation “to continue its transgressions and to exploit Lebanese divisions in order to serve its interests.”
Berri also slammed some local sides over their incitement against the Lebanese Army because of it’s decision to refuse to be thrown into confrontation with the people and the resistance.
“It is no secret that some are inciting against the military institution and its leader because of this sound national choice.”
