Talks about security in the Persian Gulf comes within the purview of the regional states alone, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran would hold talks about security of the Persian Gulf region only with the regional countries,” Araqchi said in a meeting with the Qatari foreign minister’s special representative, held in Tehran on Monday.
Stressing the need for constant consultations between Tehran and Doha over regional affairs, the Iranian diplomat noted that regional security and stability would materialize through dialogue and participation of all regional countries and without foreign interference, Tasnim news agency reported.
For his part, Ali bin Fahad Al-Hajri called for efforts for political and economic development in the region and the political settlement of crises through dialogue.
A Qatari diplomatic delegation, led by Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, visited Tehran on Monday and held meetings with Iranian President Hasan Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
