Egyptian Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, on Wednesday affirmed Cairo’s “full support” for President Joseph Aoun and the initiatives he announced in his Independence Day address, including the government’s decision to restrict all weapons to state institutions. Speaking after meeting President Aoun in Baabda, Abdelatty stressed that Egypt “will spare no effort” in using its regional and international ties to prevent any escalation in Lebanon and “defuse the crisis,” condemning Israeli violations of Lebanese sovereignty “in the strongest possible terms.”
Abdelatty conveyed President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s greetings and reiterated Egypt’s deep commitment to Lebanon’s security and stability, describing his fourth visit to Beirut in 18 months as “a clear reflection of Egypt’s engagement.” He highlighted the strong bilateral coordination across presidential and ministerial levels, noting recent high-level meetings and the activation of the Joint Higher Committee.
The minister praised the Lebanese Army’s efforts in the south to uphold state authority under the cessation-of-hostilities agreement, stressing the need for full implementation of UN Resolution 1701 and an end to Israeli breaches. He emphasized Egypt’s ongoing diplomatic contacts with all regional and international stakeholders, “without exception,” aimed at de-escalation, political solutions, and reinforcing Lebanon’s sovereignty.
Responding to questions, Abdelatty said Egypt had not delivered warnings but expressed deep concern over rising risks. He underscored that Cairo’s efforts build on President Aoun’s proposals, including the army’s readiness to assume control over all occupied points in the south.
He concluded by affirming that Egypt’s position remains firm: unwavering support for Lebanon’s unity, sovereignty, and stability, and continued action to prevent further escalation.
