Lebanon’s President Michel Aoun received Monday the Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the accompanying delegation at Baabda Palace as talks tackled the latest developments and means to bolster the bilateral ties between the two countries.
President Aoun thanked Zarif for the support provided by the Islamic Republic to Lebanon in all domains, indicating that the issue of Syrian refugees in Lebanon has to be resolved due to its negative effects on the socioeconomic conditions of the country.
For his part, Zarif conveyed the Iranian President Hasan Rouhani’s greeting and invitation to President Aoun to visit Tehran, highlighting the importance of the bilateral relations between the two countries.
At his Ain Al-Tineh residence, House Speaker Nabih Berri welcomed Zarif who reiterated his country’s readiness to cooperate with the Lebanese government in all domains that serves the mutual interests of both sides.
Zarif, who arrived in Beirut on Sunday, is scheduled to meet also with foreign minister Gebran Bassil and Prime Minister Saad Hariri later.
