A new UN report has documented an overwhelming number of violations by “Israel” in southern Lebanon, accusing it of systematically breaching the terms of the ceasefire. According to UNIFIL, Israeli forces have violated Lebanese airspace over 7,300 times since the truce took effect in November 2024.
In an interview with RIA Novosti on Wednesday, UNIFIL spokesperson Danny Goffrey stated that these repeated incursions, along with thousands of other military activities north of the Blue Line, constitute a clear violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. This resolution has governed the rules of engagement in the region since the end of the 2006 war.
Wall Construction Encroaches on Lebanese Territory
In a significant territorial violation, UNIFIL confirmed that “Israel” is constructing concrete barriers that cross the internationally recognized Blue Line. A geographic survey conducted in October found a wall built southwest of Yaroun crossing into Lebanese territory. Goffrey confirmed that a second barrier, observed southeast of Yaroun in November, also surpasses the boundary.
The UNIFIL spokesperson stated that the mission will formally notify “Israel” of these violations, which directly contravene Resolution 1701. This resolution specifically calls for a full cessation of hostilities and the establishment of a demilitarized zone between the Blue Line and the Litani River.
Goffrey further emphasized the responsibility of Israeli forces to refrain from any hostile actions that could threaten UN peacekeepers operating in the area.
