The 39th International Islamic Unity Conference opened today in Tehran, bringing together religious scholars, leaders, and thinkers from across the Islamic world to discuss unity, solidarity, and shared responsibility in the face of growing regional and global challenges.
In his opening remarks, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized that divisions within the Muslim world have emboldened external powers, particularly the United States and Israel, to pursue hostile policies toward Muslim nations.
“Had the Islamic world been united, neither Israel nor the United States would have dared to attack Muslims. Our fault lies in our internal divisions—divisions they exploited to sow discord and sell weapons to Muslim countries under the pretext of fear and defense,” Pezeshkian declared.
A Call for Unity and Moral Clarity
Addressing attendees—religious scholars and representatives of various Islamic sects—Pezeshkian called on leaders to uphold the core message of Islam as a unifying force rooted in justice and truth.
“You are the elders of religions and sects. It is our duty to convey the message of God and His Prophet to the people—that we, as Muslims, are brothers regardless of our differences in beliefs or traditions,” he added.

Resistance and Resilience Against Foreign Interference
Pezeshkian underscored the importance of translating Islamic unity into practical action within societies and communities.
“We are brothers,” he said. “If we can demonstrate this brotherhood in practice—among our followers and in our societies—then the hopes of America and Israel to divide us will collapse. Their success depends on our failure.”
He went on to affirm that while military strength and sacrifice played a critical role in confronting foreign aggression, it was ultimately the unity of the Iranian people that thwarted the objectives of its adversaries.
“Yes, we had missiles, and our fighters struck them with strength and sacrifice,” he said. “But the people struck harder. It was our people’s unity that disappointed them. They thought a few rockets would bring the nation to its knees—but they were wrong.”

Condemning Silence Over Atrocities
Turning his attention to Israeli actions in the region, Pezeshkian condemned the brutal killing of civilians and the global silence surrounding it.
“They kill women and children, yet no one holds them accountable. But when something happens in a Muslim society, they rush to claim human rights violations. What kind of human rights are these—ones that spare no child, no woman, no sick person, and commit genocide in full view of the world?” Iran’s Pezeshkian inquired.
