Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani stressed that the Islamic Republic does not meddle in Lebanon’s internal affairs, but stands by it and supports it under all circumstances.
In remarks carried by Iranian media on Sunday, Larijani said discussions are underway in Lebanon to find solutions, affirming that “the decision rests with the Lebanese people themselves.”
The top Iranian official slammed deadlines imposed by major powers on countries in the region, considering it an “insulting rhetoric that doesn’t work with ancient people.”
“(US President Donald) Trump also set deadlines before, but no one paid attention to the,” Larijani said.
“Someone comes from thousands of kilometers away and says: You must get this done by this time, and then they wave a paltry reward. It’s humiliating and unacceptable!”.
In this context, Larijani stressed that that Iran’s approach “is based on each country preserving its sovereignty and independent decision.”
“If the United States wants to help, let it offer it unconditionally. As for us, it is our duty to stand with our brothers, but we do not give them orders.”
Larijani’s remarks came few days after he staged a visit to Iraq and Lebanon, where he met with senior Lebanese officials.
