The Lebanese government on Tuesday tasked the army with drafting a plan to confine all weapons to the state by the end of the year, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam announced.
Following a nearly six-hour cabinet session, Salam stated that the Army was assigned to “develop an implementation plan to confine weapons by the end of the current year to the parties specified in the Declaration of Special Arrangements for the Cessation of Hostilities alone.”
“The plan is to be presented to the Council of Ministers before the 31st of this month for discussion and approval.”
The Lebanese government will discuss the proposal of US envoy Tom Barrack on Thursday, August 7, 2025, according to Al-Manar correspondent who reported that Hezbollah’s minister Rakan Nasseriddine and Amal Movement’s minister Tamara Al-Zein left the cabinet session because they were dissatisfied with the decision.
Hezbollah Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem stressed on the same day that the Resistance weaponry is a constitutional issue that requires consensus, affirming that the Party will continue defending Lebanon against the Israeli aggression.
