Hezbollah official Nawar Al-Sahili describe the issue of Syrian refugees in Lebanon as intolerable burden, calling on the Lebanese Government to act in a bid to confront a US-European scheme in this regard.
In an interview with Al-Manar’s Panoama Today on Tuesday, Al-Sahili pointed to a US-European decision to keep the refugees in Lebanon and prevent their return to the homeland.
“There is a conspiracy against Lebanon and Syria,” the former lawmaker told Panorama Today’s Manar Sabbagh.
He affirmed that Lebanon and Syria have common history and solid ties between its people, noting that “this doesn’t contradict with the fact that the Syrian refugees pose burden on Lebanon.”
“According to a survey conducted by the General Security months ago, more than 2 million Syrian refugees reside in Lebanon,” Al-Sahili said, noting that the number is high comparing to Lebanon’ s 5-million population.
“For the first time, all Lebanese powers agree on an issue,” the former MP said, noting that this issue is the Syrian refugees.
He stressed that these powers are represented by a sole side which is the Lebanese Government.
“The Government has to shoulder its responsibilities regarding a national issue like this.”
In this context, Al-Sahili slammed the Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, noting that: “He fears to take decisions that affect his interests as a businessman.”
“The first one to blame is the prime minister as he heads the executive authority in the country, and he has to act since the situation today is intolerable.”
“There is tardiness in the behavior of the Lebanese authorities in dealing with the issue of Syrian refugees,” Al-Sahili said, clarifying that thousands of refugees are crossing the border to Lebanon.
