Israeli warplanes struck Gaza early on Thursday as the Palestinian resistance retaliated for oppressive measures against prisoners in Israeli jail.
Palestinian media reported that Israeli jets bombed several sites belonging to resistance across Gaza, with Israeli media claiming the sites were “facilities where Hamas stores weapons,” referring to the prominent resistance group the besieged coastal enclave.
Footage published by Palestinian media outlets showed fireballs exploding in the densely populated coastal enclave.
The Palestinian resistance fighters fired ground-to-air missiles at the Israeli planes carrying out the attacks.
Resistance Fires Rockets
Earlier on Wednesday night, Israeli media reported rocket attack in the occupied territories, with sirens sounding in Sderot and other Israeli settlements near Gaza.
Israeli settlers in Sderot reported hearing a loud explosion shortly after the sirens sounded, the Jerusalem Post reported, citing the occupation military as saying that the Iron Dome air defense system intercepted a rocket that had been launched from Gaza.
“Palestinian Islamic Jihad appeared to take responsibility for the launch on Wednesday night, writing on pieces of paper attached to the rockets that ‘[harming] female prisoners is a red line,’ in a video released shortly after the rocket launch,” JPost reported, referring to Israeli oppressive measures against female prisoners in Israeli jails.
Later on Thursday morning, the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine announced it had launched rocket salvos at Israel early on Thursday in response to the air strikes and the “systematic aggression” against Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.
Tensions have been high in occupied Palestine in the latest weeks, as the Israeli occupation has been launching daily raids in Jenin, Nablus, Al-Quds and several areas across the West Bank and as Zionist settlers have been daily storming Al-Aqsa Mosque. Escalation was looming last Tuesday as Israeli Prison Service officers attacked female Palestinian prisoners at Damon jail and stepped up punitive measures against them.

January 2023 had been the deadliest month for Palestinians since 2015, Palestinian media reported, noting that 35 Palestinians were martyred in this month, including at least 20 martyrs in Jenin.
