The United States Special Envoy for Iran Rob Malley is set to visit Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Israel and Saudi Arabia this week, the US State Department announced on Thursday.
Malley’s visit is intended to focus on coordination with regional powers ahead of an upcoming discussion on Iran’s nuclear program, which is set to resume on November 29.
“He will coordinate our approaches on a broad range of concerns with Iran, including its destabilizing activities in the region and the upcoming seventh round of talks on a mutual return to full compliance,” the US State Department continued.
During the upcoming negotiations, Iran is expected to pursue lifted sanctions, and the US seeks to impose limits on the country’s nuclear program.
On Wednesday, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian was prepared for the upcoming talks.
“At the negotiating table in Vienna, we are ready to deliver a good agreement,” the official detailed on Twitter.
“The return of all parties to their commitments is an important and leading principle.”
The original agreement, established in 2015, saw former US president Donald Trump withdraw the country unilaterally from the deal and imposing harsh sanctions on the Islamic Republic.
