The Lebanese presidency issued on Thursday a statement in which it reiterated President Michel Aoun does not demand the one-third veto share in the new government as a precondition to approve it.
The statement indicated that President Aoun takes the harsh economic conditions in Lebanon into consideration, adding that he had told all his Lebanese and foreign guests that he is not after obtaining a veto share in the new government.
The presidency also stressed that those who accuse the president of cabinet formation are themselves involved in crippling the states institutions and preventing the fight against corruption.
PM-designate Najib Mikati had issued on the same day a statement in which he indirectly accused President Aoun of blocking the creation of the new government and misleading the Lebanese by showing the premier-designate as being behind the deadlock.
On July 26, Mikati was nominated by 73 members of the parliament to form the new government during the binding parliamentary consultations held by President Aoun at Baabda Palace.
