Syria and Iran signed on Monday 11 agreements, memos of understanding and executive programs to enhance cooperation between them in the economic, cultural, scientific, infrastructure, service, investment and housing domains at the conclusion of the meetings of the 14th session of the Syrian-Iranian Higher Committee held in Damascus.
One of the most prominent signed cooperation papers, was an agreement on long-term strategic economic cooperation and a memo of understanding for the meetings of the higher joint committee signed by Prime Minister Imad Khamis and First vice-President of Iran Eshaq Jahangiri.
A memo of understanding was also signed between Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade at the Syrian Arab Republic and the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade at the Iranian Republic.
During the meetings, a memo of understanding was signed between the General Establishment of Syrian Railways and the Iranian railways, in addition to signing a memo of understanding in the domain of public works and construction.
A memo of understanding for cooperation in domain of promoting investments between the Syrian Investment Commission (SIC) and the Iranian Organization for Investment, Economic and Technical Assistance was among the signed papers between the two sides.
A memo of understanding in the geomatics domain was inked between the Syrian General Organization for Remote Sensing and the Iranian National Geographical Organization.
The two sides also signed a memo of understanding for enhancing cinematic cooperation between the General Establishment for Cinema in Syria and Iran’s Cinema Organization.
A memo of understanding on exchanging information related to money laundering and financing terrorism was inked between Anti-money Laundering and Counter-terrorist Financing Commission in Syria and the Iranian Money Transfer Unit.
The two sides signed an executive program for cultural cooperation between the Syrian Ministry of Culture and the Iranian Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance for the years 2019/2020/2021.
An executive program in the educational domain for the years 2019/ 2020/ 2021 was signed during the meetings between the Syrian and Iranian governments.
Earlier on Monday evening, the Syrian-Iranian Higher Committee held a meeting at the Cabinet headquarters headed by Prime Minister Imad Khamis and First vice-President of Iran Eshaq Jahangiri.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed prospects of cooperation between the two countries on the economic and investment levels and the outcomes of the meetings of the technical committees from both sides during their meetings in Damascus over the past two days.
At the beginning of the meeting Premier Khamis said that the visit of the Iranian delegation embodies the deep-rooted relations binding the two brotherly peoples and conveys a message to the world on the reality of the distinguished relations between them in light of what they are suffering from due to the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on them.
For his part, Jahangiri affirmed his country’s standing by Syria in the stage of reconstruction as it had been always by its side in its war against terrorism, calling for further developing the relations of economic cooperation in all domains to be up to the distinguished political relations between the two countries.
He indicated that the meeting of the 14th session of the Joint Higher Committee in Damascus represents a message to the whole world on Syria’s steadfastness and its ability to recover and start the reconstruction stage.
In a press conference following the signing of the agreements, Premier Khamis affirmed that the Syrian people despite of all the challenges imposed on them over the past 8 years have been able remain steadfast and they have supported their leadership and army as they have been able to achieve victory over terrorism.
He added that the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on the Syrian people have failed in achieving their goals due to the successive military victories achieved by the Syrian state over terrorism.
Khamis affirmed that cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran will continue on all levels to meet the aspirations of the Syrian and Iranian peoples through finding a joint mechanism to stand in the face of the coercive economic measures imposed on them.
He indicated that the visit reflects the high-level coordination between the two states which entails exerting more efforts to find renewable aspects of cooperation in all the economic domains to reach the level of the political relations, adding that the committee has exerted huge efforts to sign those qualitative agreements today.
He expressed Syria’s readiness to provide all the required facilitations to the Iranian companies to make investments in Syria and to effectively participate in the reconstruction stage.
For his part, Jahangiri congratulated the Syrian people on Syria’s victories over terrorism, affirming his country’s standing by Syria in its war against terrorism in which it fights on behalf of the whole world.
He noted that Iran has always supported Syria in its war against terrorism and it will support it in the face of the economic siege imposed against the Syrian people, adding that Iran will effectively participate in the reconstruction stage in the country.
Jahangiri indicated that the meetings of the committee today prove the keenness of both sides on developing cooperation between them in different domains.
