Sponsored by the House Speaker Nabih Berri, the first coordination meeting for South Lebanon Reconstruction was held on Tuesday in Msayleh for the sake of launching the national project.
The representative of Speaker Berri, MP Mohammad Khawaja, underscored the national aspect of the reconstruction project, affirming the role of the government and all the Lebanese people in this regard.
Finance Minister Yassin Jaber, Minister of Public Health Rakan Nassereddine, Environment Minister Tamara Elzein, Minister of Agriculture Nizar Hani and Minister of Public Works Fayez Rasamny attended the meeting. Jaber affirmed that passing the law of establishing the reconstruction fund would enable the ministry of finance to obtain certain amounts of money from several countries. Nassereddine underlined providing each public hospital in South Lebanon with around 600 thousand dollars.
57730 houses have been completely or partially destroyed, and 185,717 houses have been damaged in South Lebanon by the Israeli aggression since October 7, 2023, according to Hashem Haidar, the Head of South Lebanon Council.
The conferees called on the government to address this national cause in the state budget away from the local political considerations and the foreign pressures.
