Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned that any action taken against Iran based on the illegal reimposition of UN sanctions will be met with serious and decisive reciprocal measures from Tehran.
Speaking during his pre-agenda speech at an open parliamentary session on Sunday, Ghalibaf vehemently denounced the recent activation of the so-called “snapback mechanism” by the United States and its allies, a move he described as fundamentally illegitimate.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran does not recognize the implementation of snapback or the reactivation of sanction resolutions,” Ghalibaf stated, asserting that the attempt to return the UN sanctions has no legal standing.
Ghalibaf noted that Iran, accordingly, will not comply with these unlawful resolutions, including suspension of uranium enrichment, while affirming that Iran’s right to enrichment remains recognized under international law.
He added that the sanctions outlined in these resolutions are insignificant compared to unilateral US sanctions.
The Speaker emphasized that due to the illegality of invoking the snapback mechanism and the opposition of Russia and China, the enforcement of these resolutions faces serious legal obstacles at the UN.
Ghalibaf warned that if any country acts against Iran based on these illegal resolutions, Tehran will retaliate with decisive reciprocal measures, adding that the three European countries behind this unlawful move will also face Iran’s response.
