The Lebanese House Speaker Nabih Berri voiced his disappointment with the US stance pertaining to the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and the Zionist entity to the extent of saying that even May 17 agreement is even better.
May 17 Agreement refers to the deal between the Lebanese President Amin Gemayyel and the Israeli enemy signed in 1983 to give the Zionist entity security privileges in Lebanon and fight the resistance groups.
“How wonderful May 17 Agreement is (in comparison to the current US proposal),” Speaker Berri said in a press interview.
“The American guarantor of the ceasefire agreement, which took effect on November 27, 2024, has made it worse than May 17 deal.”
The US envoy Thomas Barrack did not convey any Israeli concessions, nor did he present any US guarantees, Speaker Berri added.
Speaker Berri denounced involving the Lebanese Army in the arms restriction issue, stressing that it is political and must be handled by the council of ministers.
“We will not allow any party to cause any little harm to the Lebanese Army. The local problem is tampering with the nation of the country.”
