The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has released a statement revealing that a number of American personnel are currently undergoing evaluation for traumatic brain injuries after an intense missile strike on the Ain al-Asad airbase in Iraq by anti-terrorist groups. The attack, which took place on Saturday evening, targeted the airbase in the western province of Anbar with multiple ballistic missiles and rockets.
While CENTCOM confirmed the attack, they refrained from providing specific details about the extent of the injuries incurred. However, according to an unnamed US official cited by Reuters, the injuries sustained by American military personnel were described as minor. A member of Iraq’s security forces was also wounded in the rocket attack against the Ain al-Asad airbase, which houses US occupation forces in Anbar Province.
Claiming responsibility for the assault, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, a coalition of anti-terrorist armed groups, stated through its Telegram channel that the airbase was directly hit by a large number of missiles and rockets. They emphasized that the attack was carried out in retaliation for the continued unwavering support provided by the US to Israel’s genocidal war against the besieged Gaza Strip.
Over the past few weeks, Iraqi resistance forces have conducted numerous strikes on US military facilities in Iraq and Syria. These attacks reflect the growing anti-US sentiments within the region, driven by Washington’s backing of Israel’s relentless bombardment campaign in Gaza.
The war on Gaza was initiated by ‘Israel’ on October 7, prompted by a surprise operation conducted by the Palestinian resistance groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad in response to the occupying regime’s escalated crimes against the Palestinian people. Tragically, the aggression has resulted in the deaths of more than 24,900 Palestinians, predominantly women and children. Moreover, Israel has imposed a complete siege on the territory, severing access to essential resources such as fuel, electricity, food, and water, affecting the lives of over two million Palestinians.
Throughout this crisis, the United States has been providing ‘Israel’ with weapons and intelligence support while actively blocking UN resolutions calling for a humanitarian ceasefire in the Palestinian territory.
