House Speaker Nabih Berri underlined the importance of ending the stalemate and heading directly to elect a new President on the basis of consensus.
Speaker Berri’s made his remarks during an interview with Al-Joumhoriyah daily, indicating that time is running up for the Lebanese to find their way out of the deadlock.
The House Speaker stressed that electing a new President is prior to all the other files, adding that addressing the other issues will be after the election.
Speaker Berri also pointed out that rejecting the national dialogue aimed at ending the presidential vacuum was a major mistake.
Due to the absence of consensus among the various blocs, the Lebanese parliament has failed to elect a new president during 12 vote sessions.
