Lebanese House Speaker, Nabih Berri, and Caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, alongside Energy Minister Walid Fayad and Transport Minister Ali Hamie, have reached the offshore Transocean Barents drilling rig in Block 9. The officials were transported via helicopter from the Beirut International Airport, courtesy of TotalEnergies.
Berri expressed his happiness, saying, “In this darkness comes a day of joy for which I have worked for long years until the framework agreement was concluded.” He expressed hope that Lebanon’s offshore wealth would soon start generating revenues, stating that this would mark the beginning of overcoming the economic crisis the nation is facing. Berri wished that the Lebanese would soon come to an agreement over the election of a president of the republic.
Mikati echoed Berri’s optimism and hoped that the upcoming days would bring “promising signs” to help Lebanon address the many crises that plague it.
“We hope that everybody will cooperate in the upcoming stage in order to revive our country and end the deterioration that we are witnessing on all levels,” he said.
This visit is deemed significant amid Lebanon’s financial meltdown, as the nation seeks to tap into its natural resources to secure its economic stability.
Berri and Mikati’s visit is considered a “day for the nation and a bright page in history,” signaling a glimmer of hope toward a potential economic rebound.
