Against the backdrop of repeated planned burning of the Holy Quran and the Iraqi flag by Swedish extremists, Iraq decided to expel the Swedish ambassador in Iraq along with recalling the Iraqi charge de,’ affairs in Stockholm.
“Prime Minister, Mohammad Shia al-Sudani, instructed for summoning the Iraqi Charge d’ Affairs in Stockholm in addition to asking the Swedish ambassador to leave Iraq , in response to granting the permit by the Swedish government to some people to burn the Islamic sanctities as well as the Iraqi flag” Iraqi News Agency stated.
Baghdad had informed the Swedish government that any recurrence of such incident involving the burning of the holy Quran on Swedish soil would necessitate severing diplomatic relations.
