Caretaker Prime Minister, Prime Minister-designate, Najib Mikati, on Monday met at the Grand Serail with Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Abdallah Bou Habib, over the outcome of the consultative meeting of the Arab foreign Ministers held last Saturday in Beirut.
According to a statement, discussions touched on “the situation in the south and the subject of the three drones that were launched in the vicinity of the disputed maritime area, and the reactions they provoked about the feasibility and viability of this process, which took place outside the framework of state responsibility and the diplomatic context, especially that the ongoing negotiations under the efforts of the American mediator Amos Hochstein have reached advanced stages. In this framework, Lebanon renews its support for the efforts of the American mediator to reach a solution that preserves the Lebanese rights in full and with complete clarity, and calls for speeding up the pace of negotiations. Lebanon also counts on the continuation of US efforts to support it and preserve its rights to its water wealth and to restore its economic and social wellbeing.”
The statement added, “Lebanon considers that any action outside the framework of the state’s responsibility and the diplomatic context under which negotiations are taking place, is unacceptable and exposes it to unnecessary risks. Accordingly, we call upon all parties to demonstrate a sense of high national responsibility and to abide by what had been previously declared that everyone without exception stands behind the state in the negotiation process.”
