A new round of negotiations has begun in Doha, Qatar, aimed at breaking the stalemate in the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal.
Nournews reported that Iran’s chief negotiator Ali Bagheri Kani met with EU Lead Negotiator Enrique Mora in Doha.
The news agency stressed that the remaining issues were tackled on the first day of the talks between Kani and Mora, followed by a technical and serious approach.
The talks in Doha came after several rounds of talks in Vienna since April last year to resurrect the JCPOA, which was unilaterally abandoned by former US President Donald Trump in May 2018.
The atmosphere of the negotiations, according to the news agency, has been pursued with a focus on the “specialized dimensions” of each of the discussed aspects.
It is worth noting that Tehran has previously stated that no direct talks will take place with the US, and Enrique Mora will relay messages to both parties.
On his account, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Tuesday that “the red lines drawn in the negotiations at the level of policy-making and decision-making in Iran are based on the maximum provision of national interests, and this is an issue that will be judged by future generations.”
In the same context, the Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh stated, on Monday, that the following round of discussions would be indirect and would address lingering sanctions concerns but not nuclear ones, and that nothing would be added to the Vienna agreement or withdrawn from it.
The ball is in the US court, he added, noting -that if they respond, a settlement is bound to take place.
He emphasized that all of Iran’s previous actions are reversible if the other side fulfills its pledges and that nothing is agreed upon until everything is agreed upon.
