Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri called on the new parliament to protect the rights of the depositors and endorse all laws relevant to fighting corruption and squandering, as he was re-elected for the 7th term in a row for the Speaker post.
Berri announced that he will throw behind him “every insult and will meet the “white votes” with a white heart to cooperate for saving Lebanon.”
“The Lebanese and the world are looking up to you as a single glimmer of hope for saving Lebanon. Let disputes and competition be for the best of Lebanon and the Lebanese,” the speaker said.
Berri, 84, has served as Speaker since 1992.
The Parliament on Tuesday re-elected Nabih Berri as its Speaker with a majority of 65 votes, while 23 blank ballots were casted and 40 ballot papers were canceled.
