Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani affirmed on Monday Baghdad’s relentless efforts to develop its relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran and strengthen fruitful partnerships in various levels, serving the interests of both the Iraqi and Iranian nations.
The remarks by the Iraqi PM came during his meeting in Baghdad with Ali Larijani, Secretary-General of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, and his accompanying delegation.
Al-Sudani reiterated Iraq’s firm position in rejecting the Zionist aggression against Iran and any other move that would escalate regional and international conflicts, his media office stated. He also affirmed Iraq’s support for dialogue between Washington and Tehran.
The Iraqi premier sponsored the signing of a joint security memorandum of understanding MoU on security issues.
The security agreement was signed between Larijani and the Iraqi National Security Advisor Qasim Al-Araji in Baghdad.

For his part, Larijani conveyed to Al-Sudani the greetings of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, stressing his government’s keenness to develop and sustain bilateral relations in various fields.
Larijani has embarked on a two-nation regional trip to Iraq and Lebanon. On the first leg of his tour, he arrived in Baghdad on Monday.
“We have drafted a security agreement with Iraq, which is a very important issue. Iran’s perspective and approach in relations with its neighbors are based on [the fact] that the security of Iranians is the focal point but Iran also pays attention to the security of the neighboring countries,” Larijani said before his departure, as quoted by Iranian media.
He noted that Iran’s security is intertwined with that of neighboring countries.
Iran enjoys close trade ties with the friendly country of Iraq, while the two nations also have a very good level of cooperation, he said.
