Majority of the Lebanese people oppose the disarmament of the resistance in the country, a new poll indicated, as cited by Lebanese media.
According to a poll conducted by the Consultative Center for Studies and Documentation (CCSD), majority of the Lebanese people, 58% of the respondents, oppose disarming the resistance without agreeing on a defensive strategy, Al-Akhbar Lebanese Newspaper reported on Monday.
72% of respondents stated that the Lebanese Army alone is not capable of confronting any Israeli aggression, and about 76% also believed that diplomacy alone is incapable of deterring aggression.
The survey revealed also significant concerns among respondents from all sects about the existential threat posed by the events in Syria to Lebanon.
The poll, conducted between July 27 and August 4, included questions on a number of current issues, such as the resistance, the army, defense strategy, and the position on events in Syria, among others.
The sample size was 600 respondents (54% males and 46% females) randomly selected from all regions, sects, and age groups with a margin of error of approximately 5%.
In response to a question: Do you support disarming the resistance without a defensive strategy? The answer was “no” from approximately 96% of Shiite respondents, 50% of Sunni respondents, 46% of Druze respondents, and 32% of Christians.
Respondent from all sects agreed at a high rate (92% of Shiites and 63.3% of the rest of the sects) that the army alone is incapable of confronting any Israeli aggression.
Respondents from all sects, to varying degrees, believed that diplomacy alone was incapable of deterring aggression. This was confirmed by approximately 80% of Shiites, approximately 53% of Sunnis, 50% of Druze, and approximately 41% of Christians.
Last week, the Lebanese Government approved on Thursday “objectives” of a US plan to disarm Hezbollah, yielding to US and Israeli pressures.
The cabinet session on August 7 followed another session on August 5, in which the Lebanese Government tasked the Lebanese Army with drafting a plan to confine all weapons to the State by the end of the year.
The Lebanese State is subjected to unprecedented pressure by the United States, the first sponsor of the Zionist entity, to tackle the issue of disarming Hezbollah.
The Israeli enemy continues to bomb Lebanon, mainly the country’s south, almost daily and maintains occupation over five posts along the southern border, in violation of a ceasefire deal reached following a brutal 66-day Israeli war between September and November 2024.

At least 230 Lebanese people have been martyred in the Israeli attacks since the ceasefire took effect on November 27, 2024.
