Syria’s National Security Advisor Ali Mamlouk praised Iran for playing a prominent role in strengthening regional stability and countering terrorist groups.
During a visit to Damascus, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian held a meeting with Syrian National Security Advisor Ali Mamlouk on Wednesday.
In the meeting, the Syrian national security advisor underscored Iran’s key role in stabilizing the region and fighting against the terrorist groups.
Mamluk also lauded the prominent role of late Iranian Lt. General Qassem Suleimani in this regard and paid tribute to the commander who was martyred in a US strike near Baghdad airport in January 2020.
For his part, the top Iranian diplomat reaffirmed the Islamic Republic’s continued support for the government and people of Syria, Tasnim news agency reported.
Amir Abdollahian highlighted Iran’s efforts to fight against terrorism and the extremist currents in the region.
The Iranian FM has held separate meetings with his Syrian counterpart and with President of Syria Bashar al-Assad during his stay in Damascus.
In a meeting with Syrian President president, Amir Abdollahian said Iran welcomes the process of de-escalation in the relations between Syria and the regional countries, calling for the settlement of all conflicts through dialogue and peaceful political solutions.
The top Iranian diplomat also met his counterpart Faisal Mekdad, as he described Tehran-Damascus ties as excellent and strategic. Amir Abdollahian underlined the role of the foreign ministries of Iran and Syria in pursuing the bilateral agreements and putting them into practice.
