Two civilians died in the self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) as a result of the attack by the Ukrainian armed forces in the area of the settlement of Pionerskoye, the people’s police of the LPR said on Sunday.
“Unfortunately, as a result of the aggression by Kiev’s militants, two civilians were killed, 5 residential buildings were destroyed,” the police said.
Meanwhile, Kiev’s forces kept firing non-stop at important civilian infrastructure in self-proclaimed Donestk People’s Republic (DPR), DPR’s militia said Sunday.
“The situation along the line of contact remains critical. Ukraine’s armed groups are launching heavy fire at civilian infrastructure and facilities that are critical to the functioning of the republic round the clock,” the people’s militia said.
DPR intelligence suggests that Kiev’s forces may be planning “new terrorist attacks on civilian infrastructure and civilians,” the militia said.
On Thursday, the Ukrainian army launched an attack against the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, with Donbass authorities warning that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy would order a full-scale offensive against the republics at any time.
The authorities of the DPR and the LPR started the evacuation of civilians to Russia on Friday.
On 19 February, the Lugansk People’s Republic and Donetsk People’s Republic announced a general mobilisation.
Tensions on the line of contact between Ukraine and the DPR and LPR have deteriorated in the past days, after Kiev intensified its shelling of the territories of the republics.
