Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said during his visit to the United States that allegations of Russia’s election meddling in 2016 are baseless, stressing the necessity of eliminating terrorism in Syria.
In a press conference with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo earlier in the day, Lavrov said the US allegations of Russian interference were baseless, and demanded more documents.
The top Russian diplomat said the talks with his American counterpart touched on a wide range of urgent issues including the situations in the Middle East, the fight against terrorism and other issues.
He affirmed the need to completely liberate Idlib Province from terrorism, eliminate terrorism in Syria and find a political solution to the crisis in it in accordance with the UN resolution no. 2254.
Before the press conference with Pompeo, Lavrov met President Donald Trump in the Oval Office for roughly an hour.
“Just had a very good meeting with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and representatives of Russia. Discussed many items including Trade, Iran, North Korea, INF Treaty, Nuclear Arms Control, and Election Meddling. Look forward to continuing our dialogue in the near future!” Trump tweeted.
