Iraq announced on Tuesday it has been working to readmit Syria into the Arab League, eight years after Damascus was expelled from the regional bloc in a campaign by Arab states, led by Saudi Arabia, Qatar and UAE, against Damascus.
Iraqi Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmad Al-Sahhaf said it’s time for Syria to return to the Arab League.
“Iraq has become a point at which neighbors and brothers can meet,” Al-Sahhaf said, adding that “Baghdad nowadays enjoys new political status in the region.”
“Iraq works hard to readmit Syria into the Arab League,” the Iraqi official added.
