Jordanian foreign minister said his country won’t control or monitor US military base, Al-Tanf, following the US troops’ withdrawal from Syria.
“Jordan will not control or monitor Al-Tanf military base,” FM Ayman Al-Safadi said, clarifying that the base lies outside the Jordanian territory.
Asked whether the base will be handed to Jordan upon the withdrawal of the US forces, Al-Safadi said: “No, since Al-Tanf is based inside Syria.”
“Jordan will protect its borders without crossing the Syrian territory. We hope a tripartite meeting will be held to agree on arrangements that guarantee security at the other side of the border,” Al-Safadi stated.
“Al-Tanf is at the other side of the borders, and as I mentioned, Jordan will not cross the border. We will take the essential measures to protect our security, and will repel any threat concerning it.”
In this context, the Jordanian minister noted that “measures taken on the Syrian side of the border should be agreed upon by all parties, in order to ensure security and safety in the region.”
