Lebanese President Michel Aoun stressed the need to form a new government based on national accord, warning that the delay in this file “costs a lot.”
In a televised interview marking the second anniversary of his becoming president, Aoun said the differences blocking a deal over a new national unity government were “not easy”.
“Lebanon is a country of democracy and diversity,” Aoun said, stressing on need of agreement among political parties to form a government that doesn’t exclude any side.
The president t meanwhile rejected the notion of a “de facto government.”
“We want a government based on mutual understanding and national accord in order to secure achievements.”
Aoun on the other hand tackled several other issues including electricity crisis, counter-corruption as well as Syrian refugees.
President Aoun said organizations offering assistance to refugees should offer aid to them in Syria and not in Lebanon, stressing that this issue should be settled.
