Lebanese President called for filing an urgent complaint at the United Nations in a bid to suspend US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Al-Quds as Israeli capital.
Addressing an extraordinary OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) summit in Istanbul on Wednesday, President Aoun said punitive measures should be taken against any state that recognizes Al-Quds as Israeli capital.
“Since its establishment, Israel relies on excessive force, oppression, displacement of people,” the Lebanese president said, noting that the Zionist regime have been utilizing from the veto at the UN.
“UN which had divided Palestine won’t be able to condemn or deter ‘Israel’,” said Aoun, who has been accompanied by Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil.
The Lebanese president noted that events which have taken place in the region have caused rift between some neighboring countries, affecting spirit of solidarity.
“Arab-Israeli struggle has changed to become an Arab-Arab conflict.”
“Our goal remains peace, but there is no peace without justice and without respecting others’ rights,” President Aoun stressed.
