Christmas lights were tonight switched off in Bethlehem, Jesus’ traditional birthplace, in protest at US President Donald Trump’s Al-Quds (Jerusalem) speech.
Palestinians turned off festive illuminations on a Christmas tree outside Bethlehem’s Church of the Nativity, where Christians believe Jesus was born.
Another tree was darkened in Ramallah, next to the burial site of former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
Palestinian officials said the move was carried out after President Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israeli capital and pledged to move the US embassy there from Tel Aviv.
The move has sparked international outrage and protests across the world with US embassies targeted by demonstrators.
