On the anniversary of the Israeli aggression against Lebanon, Speaker Nabih Berri affirmed Lebanon’s commitment to the ceasefire agreement based on the UN Resolution 1701, stressing that the Lebanese Army will never be a border guard for ‘Israel’.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Speaker Berri saluted the martyrs, all the martyrs, and the latest among them, the children Selin, Hadi, and Silean Sharara.
“To those martyrs, the resistance martyrs, whose bodies melted into the soil of the land they own, guard, and defend its freedom and dignity, no matter how high the sacrifices, we salute their names, which we will always preserve, they are our pride and glory, and badges we wear on our chests. Their images will remain in the living memory, stars and shining moons in our skies.”
“The salute is extended to the sons of all the villages in the South, Bekaa, the Southern Suburbs, the capital Beirut, the north, and the mountain, who embodied the authenticity of belonging and rooted national unity in a pioneering human act of solidarity, mutual support, and cooperation,” the statement added.
The Zionist war on Lebanon witnessed the ugliest forms of military and political terrorism, using internationally banned weapons, and turning dozens of villages, towns, and border cities into scorched earth, according to the statement in which Speaker Berri affirmed the following:
1. We renew our commitment to the ceasefire agreement, which Lebanon, as a president, government, and resistance, has adhered to since its inception on November 27, while ‘Israel’ continues to violate it and fails to fulfill any of its obligations.
2. We reject the American envoy‘s description of the Lebanese government, army, and resistance, which is rejected in form and content and contradicts what was previously said. We affirm that the Lebanese army, led by officers and soldiers, are our sons, and they are the bet we place all our hopes and aspirations on to defend our land, sovereignty, and preserve our national unity in the face of any aggression targeting Lebanon. The army will never be a border guard for ‘Israel’, and its weapon is devoted to protect Lebanon and the Lebanese, not to stir sedition.
3. We renew our call to the Lebanese government to fulfill its commitments, particularly regarding compensation for damaged or destroyed homes, and to take a firm stance in dealing with the Israeli aggression.
Speaker Berri maintained that the Israeli aggression against the south should be an opportunity to awaken the awareness of all Lebanese that Israel’s aggressive intentions do not target a specific group, region, or sect, but rather target all of Lebanon and all Lebanese.
Confronting and resisting this aggression is a collective national responsibility, Speaker Berri concluded his statement.
