Eyes are on Baabda Presidential Palace which will host on Friday a Lebanese government session that is set to debate a US plan to disarm Hezbollah resistance group.
The session at 15:00 (Beirut time) will be chaired by President Joseph Aoun.
Al-Manar TV learned from informed sources that “contacts are still ongoing to find appropriate national solutions.”
Meanwhile, Hezbollah and Amal Movement, the parties representing majority of Shia in Lebanon “are sticking to their stance rejecting the government’s decisions regarding the resistance’s weapons, as they demand for the necessity of reversing them, given the potentially dangerous repercussions they could have,” the sources said, referring to decisions taken by the Lebanese government earlier in August on Hezbollah arms.
On the participation of ministers representing Hezbollah and Amal Movement, also known as the national duo, in the cabinet, the sources said: “All options are on table.”
“Things are going to get clear in the next few hours, before the session is scheduled to convene at 15:00,” the sources told Al-Manar.
The sources affirmed, meanwhile, that: “The national duo has always sought to work around the edges to handle the country’s affairs, and to avoid being accused of obstruction.”
“Therefore, the participation in the government session this time, if it occurs, will serve this approach, and within the framework of the national duo’s firm stance on resistance arms, which calls for dialogue and national consensus on a defense strategy after the occupation withdraws from Lebanese territory and halts its daily attacks,” the sources added.
The Lebanese State has been subjected to unprecedented pressure by the United States, the first sponsor of the Zionist entity, to tackle the issue of disarming Hezbollah.
The Lebanese Government approved earlier this month “objectives” of a US plan to disarm Hezbollah, yielding to US and Israeli pressures.
The cabinet session on August 7 followed another session on August 5, in which the Lebanese Government tasked the Lebanese Army with drafting a plan to confine all weapons to the State by the end of the year.
The decisions came as Israeli enemy continues to bomb Lebanon, mainly the country’s south, almost daily and maintains occupation over five posts along the southern border, in violation of a ceasefire deal reached following a brutal 66-day Israeli war between September and November 2024.
BREAKING:
Israel is massively bombing South Lebanon tonight, deliberately targeting civilian homes and infrastructure.
Unprovoked terror.
No warning.
No justification. This is a war crime and a crime against humanity.
And yet, the “international community” watches in silence. pic.twitter.com/NpKx8OHzJi
