Pro-Palestine Lebanese activist who spent 40 years in French prisons Georges Abdallah asserted on Wednesday that the Israeli occupation gives full legitimacy to the resistance, as he called for arming the Lebanese military establishment.
In an exclusive interview with Al-Manar, Abdallah stated: “Claims that the United States and France are friends of Lebanon can only be proven by arming the Lebanese Army.”
“The resistance does not object to any support provided to the military establishment, and will be the first to applaud it,” the pro-Palestine activist who was freed last month told Al-Manar.
“The Lebanese Army wants to protect Lebanon, but it lacks the capabilities to fully perform its role,” he said, pointing to the Arab approach which seeks to surrender to the Israeli enemy.
The so-called “armed violence”, from a historical perspective, is a necessity to confront occupation and its tools, Abdallah stressed, referring to acts of resistance.
The activist described those who have been calling for disarming the resistance as “crows.”
In this context, he recalled when there were calls for disarming the Palestinian resistance in the refugee camps.
“At time, that led to massacres that claimed the lives of thousands of civilians, including children, women, and the elderly.”
“When the resistance is asked to lay down its weapons, it means that enemy is standing at the footstep of the country,” Abdallah told Al-Manar.
He questioned the actual role of the Lebanese State on several issues including the Israeli violations in south Lebanon, maritime violations and the power outage across the country.
“The army has been disarmed for decades, while the political authority, represented by the Lebanese presidency and premiership, has chosen a path of compromise with the enemy at the expense of the national interest.”
Abdallah stressed there are only two options: “Either to confront the enemy which is occupying the land, or submit to its demands.”
He voiced confidence that the resistance is capable of protecting its weapons, as he expressed trust in the Lebanese military establishment.
“The Lebanese Army is striving to protect Lebanon despite the lack of capabilities.”
