A number of Lebanese soldiers were martyred an injured on Saturday in an explosion of Israeli war leftover munitions in the southern Lebanese town of Majdalzoun.
The explosion took place as soldiers of the Lebanese Army’s 5th Brigade and the Engineering Regiment were working to dismantle and remove the ammunition, local media reported.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun made a phone call to Army Commander General Rodolphe Heikal, who briefed him on the details of the tragic incident.
President Aoun expressed his deep sorrow for the loss of these soldiers, extending condolences to their families and the army.
He emphasized that Lebanon has lost exemplary citizens who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation’s defense.
“These martyrs represent the highest values of sacrifice and devotion, reinforcing the Lebanese Army’s role as the protector of the country,” he said as quoted by Lebanese media.
For his part, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam paid tribute to the fallen soldiers saying: “With pride and reverence, we bid farewell to the brave sons of our army who were martyred in the south while performing their national duty.”
