The Syrian Presidency has announced a “comprehensive and immediate ceasefire” across the entire nation, addressing the critical circumstances currently facing the country. The declaration emphasizes the urgent need to protect Syrian lives and maintain territorial unity.
In an official statement, the Presidency conveyed its deep concern for the well-being of the Syrian people, urging all parties involved to allow the government and its institutions to responsibly implement the ceasefire. This initiative aims to foster stability and bring an end to ongoing violence.
The Presidency called on everyone to “give the Syrian state, its institutions, and its forces the opportunity to implement this ceasefire responsibly, ensuring stability and halting the bloodshed.”
It called on “all parties, without exception, to fully adhere to this resolution, immediately cease all combat operations in all areas, ensure the protection of civilians, and ensure unhindered access to humanitarian aid.”
In this context, Syrian security forces have begun “deploying in a number of areas to ensure the implementation of the ceasefire, maintain public order, and ensure the protection of citizens and their property, thus enhancing calm and stability.”
The Presidency of the Republic also warned that “any violation of this decision will be considered a clear violation of national sovereignty and will be met with the necessary legal measures, in accordance with the constitution and applicable laws.”
For its part, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights announced this morning that “a state of cautious calm prevails in the city of Sweida, following violent clashes that erupted and continued until the early hours of the morning between local Druze groups and tribal gunmen in villages located on the Damascus-Sweida road.”
The clashes ceased this morning, coinciding with the withdrawal of the attacking forces from the city’s vicinity. According to the Observatory, the forces had burned a number of cars and civilian property at the entrances to Sweida and abused civilians.
