Iran stressed on Monday that direct negotiations with the US will be neither effectual nor acceptable, noting that the venue of the next round of talks with Washington is not the main issue.
In a weekly presser, Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei revealed details regarding the next round of talks between Tehran and Washington.
The venue of the next round of negotiations will probably be somewhere other than Oman, he noted, stressing that the format and framework of the talks will remain unchanged.
“Of course, the location of the negotiations is not the main issue; what is important is the continuation of the form and framework of interaction between Iran and the United States, which will continue indirectly and with the mediation of Oman.”
He noted that Tehran is in contact with Muscat to make a decision about the location of the next round of talks.
“We are in constant contact with the Omani side, and after officially receiving their comments, a final decision on the location of the negotiations will be made,” he said.

“Direct Talks Unacceptable to Iran”
Baqaei stated that direct talks with the US will be neither fruitful nor acceptable to Iran.
“Indirect negotiation is not an unconventional method. It has happened before and is based on previous proven experiences. We have to choose a method that we’re confident of its efficiency,” the spokesman said, in remarks carried by Iranian media.
He said one of the reasons that Iran opted for indirect talks with the US was the contradictory American policies.
The US cannot press ahead with the policy of pressure and threat at the same time with a call for direct talks, the spokesperson added, saying Washington needs to resolve the paradox.
“Contradictory statements are being made by various American officials, and they themselves must find a way to resolve these contradictions. This is one of the main reasons for holding the negotiations indirectly.”

Asked whether Iran will brief the JCPOA parties about the recent talks with the US, Baqaei said, “The JCPOA is a living and existent agreement in legal terms. It also has definite parties and we will proceed with interaction and consultations under the JCPOA. These interactions will be beneficial and this process will go on.”
He announced that Araqchi is scheduled to visit Russia this week, noting that the trip had been planned beforehand.
Earlier on Monday, Axios reported that the venue of the next round of talks between Iran and the US s expected to take place on Saturday in Rome.
