Lebanese Speaker Nabih Berri said that issues in Lebanon are suspended due to lack of agreement on electing a new president.

In remarks cited by local newspaper on Saturday, Speaker Berri pointed to foreign powers’ carelessness regarding solving the crisis in Lebanon, stressing in this context that waiting for foreign powers to suggest a solution is fruitless.

“The solution is internal and it needs a serious dialogue,” the Lebanese speaker said, regretting that several Lebanese powers are not responding to dialogue calls.

Berri said, meanwhile, that holding ministerial sessions are not aimed against any local side, stressing that the governmental sessions are important for meeting the urgent needs of the Lebanese people.

The Lebanese Parliament has so far held eleven failed sessions since October in a bid to elect new president, with no candidate garnering enough support to succeed former president Michel Aoun whose term ended on October 31.

The power vacuum in Lebanon has been increasing fears of further political paralysis amid tough economic crisis.
