Lebanese parliament has failed for the 10th time to elect a president on Thursday, prolonging a power vacuum in the country amid a deep economic crisis.
In the first round, Michel Moawad received 38 votes, while 37 MPs cast blank ballot, 8 voted for Issam Khalifeh, 2 voted for Ziad Baroud, 2 voted for Salah Hnein, one voted for Shafiq Merhi, one voted for Milad Abou Muhleb, and 19 ballots were cancelled.
Speaker Nabih Berri then adjourned the session after lack in quorum in the second round, Al-Manar correspondent said, adding that Berri did not set a date for another session.
The parliament’s failure to elect a president has been complicating the situation in a country mired in a constitutional deadlock and stifling economic crisis.
