The US energy envoy, Amos Hochstein, left Lebanon after a swift visit during which he discussed the maritime border demarcation with the senior officials.
Hochstein started his Friday meetings with President Michel Aoun at Baabda Palace where he indicated that he is “optimistic about reaching an agreement” on the demarcation of the border, pointing out that “There is progress in this field”.
For his part, House Speaker Nabih Berri welcomed Hochstein in Ain Al-Tineh and underlined commitment to protecting the Lebanese national rights and resources, highlighting the role of the framework agreement in this regard.
Hochstein also met with the caretaker premier and PM-designate, Najib Mikati, at the Gran Serail, discussing with him the latest developments pertaining the border file.
The US mediator addressed the reporters at Beirut airport where he described his meetings in Beirut as positive, adding that he is optimistic about reaching an agreement, but that more work must be done.
